Knowing your agent

Having worked with a variety of agents throughout my career, I know how much it matters to get one that you like. Whether you like the way they talk, the way they do business, or the way they can meet you half way on deals, having the right agent makes all of the difference. When people ask me what makes a good agent, I always respond with “it depends”. It actually depends on a lot of factors, many that are obvious and some that aren’t.

For example, did you know that most agents have less than a year of experience? There is a lot of turnover in the insurance world, which leads to people losing agents before they even get to know them. This is where it comes time to look past the initial response and go for experience

Experience pays

It isn’t like experience is the only thing that matters, but what it does tell you is that this is a person that enjoys what they do and that has the knowledge needed to help you succeed. If you think about it, it is a difficult thing to ask for a new agent to know the ins and outs of the industry, especially when you, yourself don’t know much about.

This is when it becomes essential to find the person with perhaps not the most, but enough experience to give you the idea that they are here to stay. That their knowledge can help you make the tough decisions so that you do not have to.
